High School Transition

Hello 8th grade parents/guardians,

This page contains information to help you navigate through all of the MMSD high school options!

Most importantly, here are the websites for the main 4 high schools in Madison. You can find a lot of transition information on these sites:

There are two other high schools in Madison that are an option, but require an application/interview process:

  • Capital High School - At Capital High, they provide personalized learning in a smaller learning community to support our students’ success on their chosen college and career pathway. Being part of a team that supports academic and social/emotional growth is a hallmark of the Capital High Way. (Admissions)
  • Shabazz High School - Shabazz is a safe, diverse, and interconnected learning community where all students can receive the support they need to develop their strengths, cultivate their talents, and overcome obstacles to achieve their goals.  (Admissions)

There are two special programs, that students can apply for in 9th grade:

  • Personalized Pathways: The Personalized Pathways model takes the best practices – integrated curriculum, experiential learning opportunities and relationships – and systemically creates a new way for students and families to experience high school on the path to graduation and beyond. There are two pathways: Information Technology and Communication and Health Services. Pathways are available at East, Lafollette, and Memorial. Enrollment is open now.

  • Dual Language Immersion: Dual Language Immersion (DLI) brings English Language Learners and native English speakers together in a classroom where they learn side by side. Classes are taught in both Spanish and English. This program is available at all high schools. Enrollment is open now at their website.
